Toyota’s Josh Cook converted his qualifying pole into victory in the British Touring Car Championship qualifying race at Croft, as NAPA Racing UK duo Dan Cammish and Ash Sutton completed the top three.

Cook had earlier bagged pole by going quickest in the second group, and the Corolla driver made a good start to hold position through the first sequence of turns, as behind him Sutton got the jump on Tom Ingram away from the line and moved his Ford into fourth.

Between Turns 1 and 2 WSR’s Daryl De Leon tagged the back of Laser Tools Racing’s Gordon Shedden, sending the latter into a huge slide and dropping the Toyota out of sixth to the back of the field.

With no drivers able to deploy their TOCA Turbo Boost on the opening lap, Sutton took advantage and dived inside third-placed Mikey Doble halfway around the opening lap, seizing third as Team VERTU’s Ingram was unable to follow him through.

Doble then suffered misfortune near the end of the second lap when his Audi slowed entering the complex, dropping the Power Maxed Racing driver to the back of the field as he performed a systems reset in his car and got going again in last.

At the front, however, Cook held his own, extending a lead over Cammish to just over a second by the end of the race to score his second qualifying race victory of the season.

Behind NAPA duo Cammish and Sutton, De Leon capitalised on a penultimate lap mistake by Ingram at Sunny In, when the Hyundai driver went wide and touched the grass, to secure fourth.

Ingram tried to re-pass De Leon on the final lap, but robust defending by the Anglo-Philippine driver meant he had to settle for fifth, losing a further two points in the title race to Sutton, who now holds a 100-point lead.

Power Maxed Racing’s Aiden Moffat was sixth, moving up only when team-mate Doble hit misfortune, whilst Team VERTU’s Ricky Collard claimed seventh.

CPRL’s Daniel Rowbottom took the finish in eighth, moving up only through the demise of Shedden and Doble.

Restart Racing duo Chris Smiley and Daniel Lloyd completed the top ten, the latter regaining ground from CPRL’s Adam Morgen near the end of the race as the latter’s tyres faded.

All 23 drivers finished the race, which saw little incident and no safety car periods.
