Team VERTU’s Tom Ingram scored his third British Touring Car Championship win of the season in the final race at Silverstone, mastering wet conditions to beat new champion Ash Sutton by over four seconds.

Power Maxed Racing’s Aiden Moffat had earlier secured the reverse-grid pole position after the top eight from race two were reversed, but after light contact with Tom Ingram at the first corner it was Laser Tools Racing’s Árón Taylor-Smith who briefly assumed the lead.

Taylor-Smith’s time at the head of the pack was short-lived, however, as CPRL’s Daniel Rowbottom, from fifth on the grid, then assumed the lead when the Toyota driver ahead was muscled wide on the exit of Luffield.

Rowbottom led for the first five laps, but the Mercedes driver appeared to suffer from a misted-up windscreen and began to lose time thereafter. Going into Brooklands on the sixth lap, Moffat re-took the lead, with the Audi driver quickly opening up a second-and-a-half advantage over Rowbottom behind.

On lap eight Ingram passed Rowbottom around the outside at Luffield, the Hyundai driver completing the pass into Copse on the following lap, whilst Rowbottom then succumbed to NAPA Racing UK’s Sutton a lap later.

Ingram quickly closed in on the leading Audi, and three laps after taking second he began to dice for the lead with Moffat.

The outgoing champion eventually prevailed into Copse on the next lap, whilst Sutton made a late lunge to deny the Scot of second into Luffield further around the lap.

Ingram, however, continued to pull clear at the front and went on to score his third victory of the season by almost five seconds from Sutton.

Moffat held on to complete the podium as the top Independent driver, whilst Laser Tools Racing’s Gordon Shedden was fourth, despite almost losing the place several times in the closing laps.

NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish was fifth, keeping the battle for runner-up in the drivers’ standings well and truly alive going to Brands Hatch, sitting just five points behind Ingram in the standings.

Team VERTU’s Tom Chilton completed a strong race day with sixth, having passed Taylor-Smith on the penultimate lap.

Speedworks Motorsport’s Josh Cook then dropped Taylor-Smith a further position on the final lap, leaving the Irishman to take the chequered flag in eighth.

The top ten was completed by CPRL duo Rowbottom and Adam Morgan.

WSR’s Charles Rainford and Daryl De Leon were 11th and 12th respectively, whilst the third WSR BMW of Lewis Gilbert knocked Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble out of the final points-paying position on the last lap.
