Lewis Gilbert will race in a spare BMW chassis in this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship races at Croft, after his regular car was extensively damaged last time out at Donington Park.

Gilbert came together with Tom Chilton on the run to the Melbourne Hairpin in the opening race of the day at Donington, resulting in his 3 Series being sent into the barriers on the inside of the corner.

As his car bounced back, it dug into the ground and rolled over, with significant damage to the car then ruling the Scot out of the day’s remaining races.

Such is the damage, WSR will run Gilbert in a spare chassis this weekend at the team’s most successful circuit, as there has been insufficient time between events to repair all of the damage to the car.

“Croft’s a new circuit for me, but one where WSR and the BMW have been really successful in recent years,” said 22-year-old Gilbert.

“After the size of the incident at Donington, the team at WSR have had to work flat-out to prepare the spare car for me for this weekend and I’m really grateful to them for their efforts.

“I want to see that hard work rewarded and some points finishes would be a good way to start.”
