Speedworks Motorsport’s Christian Dick says the team have ‘a great deal of motivation to come back even stronger in 2027’ after concluding the 2026 season with Josh Cook fourth overall in the points.
Cook had strong pace all weekend, qualifying his Toyota second for Saturday afternoon’s qualifying race, having topped his group, before going on to finish in third in the qualifier.
From there, the 35-year-old held station in the opening race of the day and crossed the line in a strong third, also scooping a bonus point for the fastest lap, with his classification ultimately becoming second when Aiden Moffat was handed a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits.
Cook then scored his sixth podium of the year in race two by again taking second, showing strong pace but unable to challenge a dominant Tom Ingram for the win.
The season finale saw the Bath-based racer claim sixth, from eighth on the reversed grid, to seal fourth overall in the drivers’ standings – his best season ranking since he finished third overall in 2021.
“That’s a fantastic way to finish the season and I think everyone involved with Speedworks can take an enormous amount of pride from what we’ve achieved this weekend,” said Team Principal Christian Dick.
“Josh was outstanding. To qualify second by such a tiny margin, take a podium in the qualifying race and then follow it up with two second places on Sunday is a tremendous effort.
“The fastest lap in race one was another reminder of just how competitive our package is when everything comes together.
“Finishing fourth in the Drivers’ Championship is a significant achievement, particularly when you consider some of the challenges we’ve faced along the way.
“There have certainly been weekends where we haven’t converted our pace into the results we deserved, but there’s no doubting the speed of the car or the commitment of everyone behind it.
“We have a fantastic group of people here at Speedworks, and I’m incredibly grateful to every member of the team, our drivers and all our partners for their hard work and support throughout the season.
“We’ve got plenty to be positive about and a great deal of motivation to come back even stronger in 2027.”
Cook acknowledged that it had been an up-and-down season, but with five of his six podiums, including two race wins, coming since the resumption after the summer break, he ended the year much stronger than he started it.
“It’s been a really positive weekend and a great way to round off the championship,” said Cook. “The car felt strong pretty much from the moment we rolled out, and that gave us the confidence to really attack.
“Qualifying was incredibly close. We topped our group and ultimately missed pole by just a couple of hundredths, which was frustrating, but it showed we had the pace to fight right at the front.
“The qualifying race was a good battle, and then on Sunday we were able to take another two podiums. Getting the fastest lap in Race One was particularly satisfying.
“Naturally, you always want to win, and when you’re that close to the front you can’t help feeling there was perhaps a little bit more available.
“But two second places, three podiums across the weekend and fourth in the championship is a strong way to finish.
“It’s been a season of highs and lows, and there have been occasions where we’ve had the speed without quite getting the reward.
“But the team has never stopped pushing, and I can’t thank everyone enough for the effort they’ve put in.
“There’s a huge amount of potential in this package, and hopefully we’ve given everyone a good reminder of what we’re capable of.”
