Ricky Collard has been given a post-race five-second penalty for not following procedure at the safety car restart, handing Dan Cammish victory in the final British Touring Car Championship race of the season at Brands Hatch.

Collard had won the season-finale on the road, having had to handle two safety car restarts in an incident-packed final race of the season.

However, his second safety car restart in particular came under close scrutiny after Collard appeared to accelerate, before easing off and then accelerating again, catching out the drivers behind.

The 30-year-old was investigated by stewards after the race, and was subsequently handed a five-second penalty, dropping him to eighth and giving NAPA Racing UK a 1-2 to end the season with Cammish ahead of Ash Sutton.

“During the process of restarting the race after the second safety car period the driver of car 11 did not follow the restart procedure by a) not maintaining approximately the same speed as the safety car once the lights went out, b) accelerating prior to reaching the first “Go” board and c) not accelerating smoothly back to racing speed. This penalty is consistent with previous breaches of this article of the regulations.”
