Power Maxed Racing’s Aiden Moffat claimed victory in the British Touring Car Championship Race to Pole at Brands Hatch, earning the Scot the second pole position of his tin-top career.
Moffat had earlier been fastest in qualifying, putting his Audi on pole for the Race to Pole with a lap which was over a tenth of a second faster than anyone else.
At the start of the Race to Pole, the Audi driver made a good start to lead through the first corner, whilst behind him Team VERTU’s Ricky Collard also got away well and jumped from fourth to third, as the second Power Maxed Audi of Mikey Doble was sluggish away from the line, falling to sixth.
Toyota’s Josh Cook initially got away from the line well, but going through Paddock Hill Bend on the first lap the Corolla driver lost the back of his car and slid through the corner, falling to fourth after he then outbraked himself into Druids.
That promoted the fast-starting Tom Ingram up to third, before the two-time champion passed team-mate Collard for second going through Dingle Dell on the Grand Prix loop.
However, with less boost than the leader, Ingram was unable to close up to Moffat in the remainder of the ten-lap sprint, with Moffat going on to claim victory and record his second statistical career BTCC pole, following the pole he scored driving an Infiniti at Croft in 2021.
Ingram was half a second back at the finish, whilst Cook completed the podium after Collard went wide at Paddock Hill bend on lap three.
Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble finished in fourth, bolding passing Ash Sutton for the position on lap six at Hawthorn Hill, and withstanding pressure from the five-time champion thereafter.
Sutton crossed the finish line in fifth, but the NAPA Racing UK driver was handed a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him to 11th.
Thus Collard was promoted to fifth, ahead of WSR’s Daryl De Leon in sixth, the BMW driver having opportunistically passed CPRL’s Daniel Rowbottom for the position at Westfield bend on lap seven.
Rowbottom brought his Mercedes home in seventh, ahead of Laser Tools Racing’s Árón Taylor-Smith in eighth, Power Maxed Racing’s Dexter Patterson in ninth and NAPA’s Dan Cammish in tenth.
Patterson had qualified well ahead of the race, but fell back three places on the opening lap with a slow launch away from the line.
