Power Maxed Racing’s Aiden Moffat was the fastest driver in the British Touring Car Championship qualifying session at Brands Hatch, with a time which was a tenth and a half ahead of anyone else.
Moffat, who has only once previously claimed a pole position, was on fine form, following team-mate Mikey Doble in the times in the second group of qualifying for much of the session, before putting in a lap of 1 minute 28.948 seconds in the final minute.
That deposed Toyota’s Josh Cook from the top time, relegating the Group 1 pace-setter to second on the outside of the starting grid.
Mikey Doble will thus start the qualifying race from third, directly behind his Audi team-mate, with the top Team VERTU Hyundai of Ricky Collard in fourth – even though he was slower than team-mate Tom Ingram, the sporting format putting him ahead.
Ingram will thus start from fifth, with NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton in sixth.
Power Maxed’s Dexter Patterson was seventh, ahead of the leading WSR car of Daryl De Leon in eighth, although the BMW driver suffered a high-speed spin with four minutes left in his qualifying group.
The first part of qualifying saw more track time than the second, with Nicolas Hamilton bringing out the red flags with just under two minutes of normal time to go, resulting in the clock resetting to five laps to give drivers a final push – benefitting drivers such as De Leon, who went on to improve in the final minutes to fourth on his group, netting him eighth on the grid.
The top ten was completed by Laser Tools Racing’s Aron Taylor-Smith and NAPA’s Dan Cammish.
