Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble secured pole position for the British Touring Car Championship qualifying race at Silverstone, topping Group 2 and going two tenths of a second quicker than the top time in Group 1.
Doble lapped the Silverstone National circuit in 56.550 seconds in his Audi, which was 0.010 seconds quicker than Tom Chilton who was also in Group 2.
Doble will share the front row of the grid, though, with the Group 1 pace-setter, which was WSR’s Daryl De Leon in the rear-wheel drive BMW.
Chilton will start from third, ahead of the second WSR BMW of Charles Rainford in fourth.
Aiden Moffat made it two PMR Audis in the top five with fifth, whilst Restart Racing’s Daniel Lloyd was the second-quickest of the Hyundai drivers in sixth.
As expected, all of the title challengers struggled with their relative lack of TOCA Turbo Boost [TTB]. Team VERTU’s Tom Ingram was the best of them in 14th, whilst NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton was only 17th, which ended up being ahead of 18th-placed Dan Cammish despite Sutton posting a slower lap time.
